F10 release name: call for votes
July 22nd, 2008 — red_alertThe vote on the Fedora 10 release name has begun. Everyone who’s a Fedora contributor (i.e. have signed the CLA and are member of a non-CLA group) is eligible to vote!
The proposals one can vote on are:
- Cambridge
- Famsworth
- Mississippi
- Nile
- Nitrate
- Saltpetre
- Terror
- Water
- Whiskey Run
Personally, I gave the highest vote to Cambridge and I totally can’t understand how “Terror” did make it for a proposal. Fedora Marketing really should get more involved in the choice of proposals, even though it’s meant as a privilege to the developers.
Update
I forgot to add: Voting ends 23:59 28th July 2008 UTC.

Thanks forthe news, I never had to vote as much as since I signed the Fedora CLA ^^
Is there a page explaining the signification of each name, and its relation to the previous name ?
That would make it really helpful to choose.

There might be, but I wouldn’t know of such an explanation.
After all, it’s maybe better not to know the backgrounds of a certain name – because when someone reads in the press or somewhere else about “Fedora 10 $REL_NAME”, he won’t know what’s the background for calling it $REL_NAME too. So maybe it would be best for voting if no-one knows more than just the proposed release names themselves.

I can understand the ring to “terror” and find it somewhat similar to [what probably was our most successful release name] Werewolf.
Just think about an announcement like that: “October 2008, the Fedora Project will release The Terror upon the world”… yeah, I know, silly, but my kind of silly :p (no, I was not the one proposing the name and I am not sure I will give the highest vote to it)
