LPIC-1 awarded
June 13th, 2008 — red_alertI just noticed, that I never ever blogged about this, so here I go…
On 2008-03-19 at 08:49:30 I finished my LPI exam 101 after ~50mins (90mins were given) with a score of 560 (500 needed).
On 2008-05-23 at 11:57:16 I finished my LPI exam 102 after ~57mins (90mins were given) with a score of 640 (500 needed).
Therefore, I was awarded the LPIC-1 certificate just recently :) It took my 6 months to learn for the exams and take them – not putting too much time into it.
I’ll also go for the LPIC-2 certification, as soon as I’ve got time for that.

Good luck for the next tests, can you recommend some books for reading, that helped you?

I read a German book “LPIC-1″ by Peer Heinlein (Open Source Press).
“LPI Linux Certification in a Nutshell” published by O’Reilly can be recommended too (contains both, LPIC-1 and LPIC-2). I own that book but never read it since its more detailed than the one from Peer Heinlein and I didn’t really need that for the LPIC-1. I might need it for the LPIC-2, though.
But the most important thing to know is: you can’t learn everything from books. You need practical experience. Hands on!

kopper:
I’m a Fedora user and that said, you should know that the LPI exams are a little outdated. I mainly used it to read manpages, so that wasn’t a big problem. But if you don’t know a certain piece of software, Fedora (and probalby also Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, a.s.o.) is too new in many cases.
I already answered the question about the books I used above.
