OpenExpo 2008 in Bern, Switzerland – Day Two
March 14th, 2008 — red_alertSo here we go. After I just wrote the report of day one a little while ago, I’ll now say something about the last day of this event. The pictures are still not online, though.
Day two started quite hard. I only got home from the SocialEvent of the previous day somewhen after midnight. Since the OpenExpo was going to re-open at 09:00 that morning I was planning to be there around 08:30 or 08:50 at the latest. That’d mean I’ve got to stand up and leave home a little later than I usually do when going to work. But it’s been a long time that getting up and out was that hard. I figure I shouldn’t have done that much socializing (or at least not with 3l of Swiss beer). It was rough to get started, but after I’ve eaten something and drunk some mineral water and orange juice, I started to feel fit again.
As on the previous day, there’s been quite some crowd in the morning and not so much later on. The fair started at 09:00, but I’ve seen the first guests enter long before that. Well, they had a good reason. At 09:30 Alan Cox was having a talk, the keynote of the day. The room he was having the talk in was seriously full (and people standing outside the door to listen too) at around 09:15. I think you could have put him into a room three times that size and it would still have been overfilled since there’s been dozens of people trying to get in there after there was no way to get in already.
At out booth, most people asked about the OLPC, at least most people I heard asking or talking. Due to my job I had to visit quite some talks during the day, we’re thinking about doing business with M$->FOSS migrations quite soon. So I wasn’t at the booth as often as I’d have liked to. But my collegues did a great job and I don’t think I was really missed there. Thank you guys!
Well, that’s it for this event. I’m looking forward to LinuxTag 2008 in Berlin now, where we’ll be a much bigger team. It’s always cool to see all those european folks again and work together. And after that, I might go to F10’s FUDCon in Boston. I wanted to go to the USA and to Boston, MA for a very long time now. This might be the right time for my first visit there. I’m still looking for someone to host me during the FUDCon and if possible some days before/after that event (so I can go and see more than just the FUDCon’s ground). Oh, and I’d definitely like to see a NFL game of the NE Pats. I wonder if there’s a game in Foxborough that very weekend. But before such planning can be seriously done I’d need to get a visa or a pass with biometrical details.
